Background

600,000 Sq Ft

Crystal Peaks is a major retail and community destination in Sheffield, offering more than 100 stores and eateries alongside a covered marketplace with over 100 independent stalls. The wider centre also includes a library, medical centre, veterinary clinic and health club, supported by free parking, its own bus interchange and nearby Supertram connections. IBOS was integrated in April 2025 across the centre’s BMS and principal HVAC infrastructure, providing improved visibility of central plant, heating, ventilation, lighting and environmental-control performance.

Insights

Our analysis identified a range of equipment, sensor and control issues affecting operational reliability and energy performance. These included erroneous AHU temperature readings, persistent supply-fan fault and fail indications, zero fan-flow proof signals and CO₂ readings of approximately 2,000 ppm within parts of the central atrium. The review also identified excessive operating hours for mall and car park lighting, together with an erroneous door-heater temperature readings. These findings led to equipment-schedule optimisation, temperature-setpoint adjustments and follow-up work on AHU 1 East Mall’s controls, logging and sensors. All identified actions have been completed.

“Since integrating IBOS, we have seen significant improvements in operational efficiency, with notable reductions in energy use and costs. The system’s insights have been key to our Net Zero commitment, and we plan to expand its use across other systems to further enhance sustainability and savings.”Building Manager
