As featured in Completely Retail News this month, James Hallworth, Partner and Head of Building Technology at Workman, highlights the compelling case for intelligent building optimisation in retail and why the results speak for themselves.
IBOS delivered significant sustainability improvements across five retail destinations (from 1 May 2025 to 30 April 2026):
- 24% total energy reduction.
- 12%-45% reductions in energy consumption per site.
- £427,299 total energy cost savings across all five centres.
- Over 2.7 million kWh of energy saved.
- 657,740kg of CO2e avoided: equivalent to 80m mobile charges and 329 round-trip flights from London to New York.
Beyond the headline savings, IBOS has embedded a culture of continuous sustainability improvement across multiple retail destinations. As James argues, the question is no longer whether intelligent building technology works in retail, but how quickly the industry is prepared to embrace it.
